How to Vote in the Okotoks Election


Can you Vote?


Eligible voters are:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Canadian citizens who live in Okotoks, Alberta

How to Vote


  • Bring ID that shows your name & your Okotoks address.
  • Go to the voting station check-in. They will provide you with a ballot you will be directed to a voting compartment.
  • Go to a voting station where you will fill out your ballot.
  • There will be 4 different areas of the ballot for you to vote/answer questions. You do not need to fill out all areas. Vote & answer questions for who/what you feel knowledgeable on voting for.
    1. Okotoks Municipal Election
      1. you can vote for one person for the mayoral position, and
      2. UP TO six people for the position of councilor.
    2. School Board Elections
    3. Referendum Question
      1. For this election there is also 2 referendum questions (yes or no questions) and a senate election. You do not need to vote on these.
        1. Should section 36(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982 – Parliament and the government of Canada’s commitment to the principle of making equalization payments – be removed from the constitution?
        2. Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?
    4. Senate Elections
  • Return your completed ballot to the voting station check-in and place in voting machine.

When to Vote

There are multiple opportunities to cast your vote. The final day to vote is October 18th.

Election Day: Monday, October 18, from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.

  • If you live south of the Sheep River, you can vote at the Foothills Centennial Centre: 204 Community Way.
  • If you live north of the Sheep River, you can vote at the Okotoks Recreation Centre: 99 Okotoks Drive.

Advanced Voting: Okotoks Recreation Centre – 99 Okotoks Dr.

Friday, October 8 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, October 9 12:00 Noon to 6:00 p.m.
Monday, October 11 12:00 Noon to 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday, October 13 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, October 14 12:00 Noon to 6:00 p.m.
Friday, October 15 12:00 Noon to 6:00 p.m.

There is also institutional voting scheduled at Tudor Manor, Sandstone Lodge and The Heartland.

Getting There

  • The Town of Okotoks is offering free transit rides to residents to and from the Okotoks Recreation Centre or Foothills Centennial Centre on an Advance Voting Day or Election Day!
  • Book your ride up to three weeks prior to your preferred voting day.
  • Enter the promo code VOTE, and your ride will be 100% discounted. This information will appear in your account on the Okotoks Transit APP.
  • Book early as voting days will be busy!
